Endodontics

There are a number of reasons why a tooth may become infected, from cracks, trauma and decay, to gum disease and poor long-term brushing habits. At Carillon Dental Care we will always strive to save a tooth that has become infected, with extraction only being considered as a last resort. This can be achieved through performing endodontics or root canal treatment.

In some cases an infected tooth won’t present any symptoms, highlighting the importance of regular dental health examinations. During your routine hygienist and dentist appointments, we will look for potential problems that could lead to infection and help you to adjust your at-home routine and lifestyle habits to lower your chances of needing a root canal treatment in the future.

Once we’ve established a root canal treatment as the best course of action, the canal chambers are cleaned and disinfected using fine instruments. The canals are then sealed to stop any further infection entering the tooth. You will experience little or no discomfort during treatment.

Root treatments can take a number of visits depending on the complexity of the root and how well the infection settles.
